While painting en plein air, I had the chance to visit a private property that was formerly owned by early Irish settlers outside of Danville, Kentucky. The property had a natural spring that supplied water for crops and cattle. The old stone walls still stand in great condition, built by the Irish before the Civil War. I almost painted the landscape with a stonewall...but the flowers were too inviting and they convinced me to sit in the garden and paint them instead.
